Light

Despite the fact that this image looks as if it were taken in daylight, it was actually taken at midnight. The 30 second exposure on this shot makes allows the moon to illuminate the scene, and the light from the windows in the house to become blindingly bright.


This photo was taken with a quick exposure, but with a wide aperture. The only source of light is from the uncovered light bulb, giving the image a very specific focus.


This is another long exposure shot. The backlight offered by the moon silhouettes the tree, giving the image a greater sense of line than of form. The contrast created by the gradient of the light on the backdrop of the sky is another element that makes this shot successful for me.


In this shot, the light becomes almost an abstraction. The bands and streaks of light emanating from the streetlight reflect off the inorganic elements in the shot, like the car and house in the background, but are muted by the natural elements in the shot, like the bushes and tree.
